District 7750 Projects

Palmetto Rotary License Plates

In 2003, Rotary Districts 7750 and 7770 formed a joint License Plate Committee to gather the 400 applications needed to create a special Rotary “vanity plate”.  That was accomplished and the plates can be ordered from any Department of Motor Vehicles office.  We believe this project serves two very worthy causes in our Districts. First, it puts the Emblem of Rotary International on license plates therefore giving it exposure. We feel that if you, as a Rotarian, have this plate, someone will see it, ask you about it and give you the opportunity to share what Rotary means to you. Second, it is a great way to raise needed funds for The Rotary Foundation and for District projects that help people right here in South Carolina.

The cost of a Rotary license plate is now reduced to $50 plus the registration fee for your vehicle based on its 2-year renewal date:

  • If your vehicle is within 3 months of the renewal date, you will need to provide a paid property tax receipt for the vehicle. ($50 + reg. fee + tax receipt)
  • If your vehicle is about one year from the renewal date, you must pay a $12 fee which will extend your registration renewal date by one year ($50 + $12).
  • If your vehicle is a full 2 years from the renewal date, you pay only the $50 fee.
Note: the example above is for cars. A higher registration fee is required if your vehicle is classified as a truck, but the $50 charge is constant.

Important: You must write the DMV code for your club on the application form to expedite the return of your net donation.  This is not your RI Club Number.  [a list of the special club numbers is attached to the application.]

Mail your application to the address on the application form, including with a check for the appropriate amount payable to SC DMV.  DMV will contact you if additional fees or information are needed.  Or you may take the application form to any DMV office, pay the fees and get your Rotary tag.

DMV must recover the cost of "production and administration" of each special plate. Consequently, $8.15 is deducted from your $50 initial donation, but only $3.98 will be deducted each time you renew your tag.  The remaining $41.85 (or $46.02) of the donation will be returned to our Rotary district, then to your club. As the donor you may instruct your club president to apply all or part of the net donated dollars to your Sustaining Member account at the Rotary Foundation, and/or to district/club programs/projects.

If you are a District Governor or Assistant District Governor, you may be able to get a two digit number.  Application for these numbers must go through the District and not directly to DMV.
